"No Room for Jesus"-Luke 2:1-7
"no room"-describes more than the inn in Bethlehem….most people still make no room for Jesus…they miss Christmas just like most the
people in and around Bethlehem on the night Jesus was born………observe the season and miss the reality of what they are celebrating..numb to the real miracle of Christ’s birth….some who missed C-mas
I-The Innkeeper: he was industrious (v.7)
A-missed his opportunity
1-most important birth in history
2-put up the "no vacancy" sign and refused Jesus!
3-so industrious, so business-minded, so pre-occupied
4-v.1-6: census time and the time was crowded…Inn was busy….not hostile or un-sympathetic ***just busy****
B-had eyes for nothing else
1-***world is filled with millions of Inn-keepers***grim faces**
II-Herod:he was insecure (Mt.2:8)
A-he was a scoundrel
1-nuthing likable about him….sly old fox…guilty of many murders
2-pretended he wanted to worship Jesus
3-fearful of this one called King of the Jews….wanted no competition for his throne
B-fearful of being submissive to and answer to someone other than themselves -- - - -Lk.19:14 - - -
1-live in a world of self-appointed kings who will not bow to the King!!!
2-don’t want Jesus interfering with their power,plans,prestige,position
3-Mk.8:36 - - -take time of work to commemorate Jesus’ birth…embrace
Him as a resource when they get into trouble…..willing to add Him to Their lives and call themselves Christians, but not if He insists on Being King…***hang on to their lifestyle and doing their own thing**
III-The Religious Leaders: they were indifferent (Mt.2:4-6)
A-they just didn’t care
1-theologians,the minds,the brains…knew the scriptures…religious elite
2-Innkeeper could claim ignorance…they had all the facts
3-probably felt like they didn’t need Jesus
4-thousands don’t oppose Him..just ignore Him!!!!
5-don’t care about the remedy because they don’t believe they have the disease

"In The Shepherd’s Field"-Lk.2:8-14 saw a sight they would never forget…v.20…Lives where impacted and changed forever…given the first announcement of the Savior….considered on the lowest rung of the social level…their work kept them away from the temple and the synagogue…rendered them ceremonially unclean…what a God of grace we serve!!!!came to a shepherd’s field…lowly shepherds…a Savior would be born **title***
I-Busy Shepherds (v.8)
A-he feeds his sheep
1-****green pastures****sheep food****
B-he folds his sheep
1-bring them in close, especially at night, so the predators would not kill them
2-a good shepherd would give his life to protect his sheep!
C-he finds his sheep
1-leave the ninety and nine and go search for the lost one
2-many other things too!
3-***faithfully serving****The Great Shepherd is coming!!!
II-Beautiful Sight (v.9)
-glory verified the truthfulness and authenticity of the message they were about to hear
A-the glory at Sinai (Ex.24:16): tells us the glory cloud covered Sinai for 6 days. Out of that glory came the voice of God and the writing of the 10 Commandents
B- the glory in the tabernacle (Ex.40:34):"A cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle."
C-the glory in the Temple (I Kings 8:11):"So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud:for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord."
D-the glory on the Mt. Of Transfiguration (Mt.17:5): "While he yet spake,behold,a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him."
E-the glory around the Virgin (Lk.1:35):the power of the
highest ‘overshadowed the virgin Mary…
to "overshadow" means to envelope in a haze of brilliancy
…out of that brightness came Jesus
F-the glory in the field
1-the most insignificant, looked down upon, and despised of man can experience the wonders of God’s grace and the glory of God
2-****"Heaven came down and glory filled my soul; when at the cross, the Savior made me whole."****

time of celebration and separation…separation:world celebrates a season,
christian celebrates a Savior…the celebration of the birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ…some people:drunk-don’t know; devious-forget; depressed-won’t care…..the world will be throwing a big party,but they will forget to invite the guest of honor…office parties-Jesus would ruin their party!!!!!
***someone threw you a b-day party…everybody got a gift but you…….you were not even mentioned….not even invited…C-mas is a $15 billion
industry…half of the toys sold in America are sold at Christmas…nothing wrong with giving gifts and celebrating the season…wrong when you
forget the reason for the season….not about the buying of gifts;about the birth of God….buying toys for children;bringing tribute to Christ…the
birthday of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords…Jesus lived a unique life,and died a unique death because he experienced a unique
birth!!!!! *****the birth of Jesus*****
I-Controlled by the Sovereignty of God (v.22)
-v.22:"now after this"….family tree of Jesus is given by Matthew thru the father Joseph…"begat"****Hebrew telephone book….
the Sovereign hand of God…the Messiah was restricted to a certain lineage… - -- Gen.3:15 - - -v.16….Jesus was born of Mary!!!!!
-up to this point everyone is begotten of someone else
II-Conceived through the Spirit of God (v.18)
-Not begotten of an earthly father because he was begotten of the Holy Ghost
-only man who was ever born of an earthly mother without the need or aid of an earthly father….
-v.19:3 stages in a Jewish marriage…arrangement-engagement-marriage……..
arranged by the parents..the betrothal or engagement…a legal contract which
was considered binding on both parties the moment it was made….considered
legally married even though the marriage ceremony would not occur for a year
-v.18-19:did not know who the father was;just knew who he was not….-v.20
-4 ways to get a body:1-without a man or a woman:the way Adam got his body;
made from the dust of the earth…2-with a man,but no woman:theand Eve…4-with a woman with no man:as Jesus was born;an earthly mother but no earthly father

v.6….writer of Hebrews is quoting Ps.8 written by David, prob-ably when he was a shepherd boy….how insignificant David must have felt as he looked up at the moon and the stars….Apollo astro-naunts left a time capsule with David’s words planted on the moon.

B-man’s dignity is marred by sin
1-no longer fit for fellowship with God
2-God wants to visit man, but sin has separated man from God
